King Cove to Iniskin Bay

The fist photo if you look really close shows us at anchor in Illiamna Bay which is right next to Iniskin. PND flew in using two Beavers on floats. From Sunday to Wednesday we pulled equipment we’d deployed in April; cleaned, downloaded data, redeployed, and tried to unsuccessfully dive to set up some more research stations.

We watched the most beautiful brown bear I think I’ve ever seen on the beach just less than 50 yards from where we were anchored. The consensus of all on board was he was at least an 8’ if not a 10’ bear based on his size. The ears were a almost a golden color.

Of course the bruin was right where we needed to go ashore to calibrate some equipment! I sent my shotgun with the shore crew along with some bear spray in case he wanted to make an appearance! He was a no show!! The heavy dense brush comes right down to the beach so if he had showed up for visit there would have been only seconds to react.
